HELEN, Mont. – The Montana Tech women’s golf team posted the highest team score for a 36-hole event in school history at the Carroll College Invitational at Bill Roberts Golf Course. The Orediggers finished in second place behind Rocky Mountain.
Team Tech shot a second round 328 (+73) in cold, windy conditions. The Orediggers were 44 shots behind Rocky. The Bears finished with a 605 (+29) for the two-round event. Carroll College finished third one stroke behind Tech with a 329 (+74).
“Our ladies played well and shot a very respectable score today to beat Carroll on their home lane,” the head coach said. Sean Ryan.
Rocky took four of the top five spots with Claire Wright winning the tournament with a 139 (-5).
Emma Wood led the Orediggers in moving up the previous day’s standings with a 75. Woods moved up four places to finish sixth with a total of 157 (+13).
Kodie Hoagland finished seventh with a 159 (+15). Cierra Sundheim finished in tenth place with a 166 (+22). Emily Kelly shot a 173 (+29) finishing in T19. Samantha Benson improved 10 shots on day one finishing with a 176 (+32).
“We had a few players who bounced back and gave us good rounds today that were better than yesterday. Emma shot a very good 75 in today’s conditions and Sami Benson recovered to shoot his best run of the tournament today.
“Throughout training, players like Kennedy, Franchi, Samantha and Ciera were able to hold their heads up high and play one hole at a time.”
“It was good to have three players finishing in the top 10 of this tournament and to have so many players just outside that range, who know they can finish higher in the future.”
The Tech golfers are out next week before the final Frontier Conference event of the season. The Orediggers teeed off in the Rocky Mountain Invitational at Yegen Golf Club in Billing on October 3rd.
