Warhawk Women’s Golf heads to Hawaii for the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational

MONROE, Louisiana – The ULM women’s golf team travels to Ewa Beach, Hawaii to compete in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational Monday and Tuesday at Hoakalei Country Club.

The Hoakalei Country Club was designed by Ernie Els and is Hawaii’s longest course. The course features 112 bunkers, water features and a hole layout that has been set up in conjunction with the trade winds meaning the course can play differently from day to day. Water comes into play on 13 of the 18 holes.

The Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational is in its 36th year, since 1986. It has been played every year since, with the exception of 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Seventeen different teams have won the tournament title, with Arizona leading with eight tournament championships. Thirty different women have won individual medal honors, including Annika Sorenstam in 1991 and 1992.

The ULM range includes the second year Charlotte Fourdrainejunior Chantal DuringerSenior Jahaanvie Waliasecond Alessia Mengoni and junior Line Peterson.

Fourdraine has played in all six tournaments so far, with a season-best finish of 17th-and-6 on par 222 (75-69-78) at the Bearkat Invitational. She has two rounds below average, with a second round of 69 at the Bearkat Invitational and a first round of 70 at the Little Rock Golf Classic. She shot a 232 (73-80-79) at the Tchefuncta Invitational on February 21-22. She is fifth on the team in scoring average (76.22).

Dueringer has also played in all six tournaments so far and just finished his third Top 10 after finishing ninth at the Tchefuncta Invite at 9 over par 225 (77-75-73). She also placed fifth at the Hoover Invitational at 3-par 219 (75-68-76) and sixth at the Bearkat Invitational at 4-par 217 (72-71-74). She has two rounds below average this season, shooting 4 under 68 in the second round of the Hoover Invitational and 2 under 70 in the final round of the USA Intercollegiate. She leads the team in scoring average (74.33).

Walia played in three tournaments after being injured in the fall. She finished 27th at 232 (78-78-76) at the Tchefuncta Invitational to open the spring. His fastest lap was a 1 under par 71 in the USA Intercollegiate final round. She is fourth on the team in scoring average (76.11).

Mengoni played in five tournaments, including a 21st place finish with a 231 (77-78-76) at the Tchefuncta Invitational. She has two top-10 finishes, placing eighth at the Little Rock Golf Classic at 2 over par 218 (74-70-74) and 10th at the Lady Red Wolves Classic at 3 over par 219 (73-76-70 ). She has two rounds below par, shooting a 2-under 70 in the last round of the Lady Red Wolves Classic and again in the second round of the Little Rock Golf Classic. She is second on the team in points average (74.93).

Petersen is playing in her fifth tournament after placing 19th with a 230 (78-74-78) at the Tchefuncta Invitational. She finished in the top 10, placing sixth at the Little Rock Golf Classic at 1 over par 217 (71-74-72). His 71 in the first round of the Little Rock Golf Classic is his best round of the season. She is third on the team in points average (75.17).
