Veritex Bank Championship will be a homecoming for 3 local golfers

The Veritex Bank Championship, the first of four spring pro golf events in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, is just over a month away.

Three players in particular are looking forward to the Korn Ferry Tour event at the Texas Rangers Golf Club in Arlington, the only municipal course on the tour schedule.

“In golf, we don’t have a lot of home games,” said Charlie Saxon, who lives in Dallas after playing high school golf in Texarkana, Texas, and Oklahoma. “It’s great to see so many familiar faces and help the community.”

Highland Park alum Paul Haley II and UT-Arlington alum Zack Fischer echoed Saxon’s sentiments at a media event on Wednesday, mentioning the comfort of being able to sleep in your own bed while playing in the tournament. Haley and Fischer are tied for 11th in the 2021 tournament.

The Easter week tournament will end on Saturday, April 16. Korn Ferry Tour Chairman Alex Baldwin has announced that the final two tours will be broadcast live, although final details on where they will be broadcast are yet to be determined. This will be the first Korn Ferry Tour event of the season to air.
