The 122nd US Open gets underway on Thursday with the pre-tournament favorite among club house executives following the morning session. Rory McIlroy, who went 10-1 to win the national championship per Caesars Sportsbook, shot a 3-under 67 to dominate the morning wave, bogey-free for 17 holes until the last as he fell back into a tie to lead him to the Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts.

McIlroy started his quest for the No. 5 Major with a bang playing alongside 2021 Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama and Olympic gold medalist Xander Schauffele in a dynamite duo. Neither is under par after their first rounds, although Collin Morikawa, Jon Rahm, Will Zalatoris and Adam Scott are notable names sitting two behind the co-leaders.

Brooks Koepka is among the afternoon headliners. He is also trying to win his fifth major championship while winning his third US Open. Koepka begins his tournament in pairs with world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Players Champion Cameron Smith.
