US Open 2022 odds: Surprising PGA picks, golf predictions from proven sim that nailed the Masters

The Country Club of Brookline, Mass. is one of the oldest golf clubs in the United States, having been established in 1882. From June 16-19, it will be on display as host of the 2022 US Open. This will be the fourth time the course has will host a US Open and it has also hosted the 1999 Ryder Cup, six US Amateurs and three US Women’s Amateurs. But because it’s not a regular on the major championship or PGA Tour rotation, the iconic venue will be a unique challenge next month with a USGA setup that’s expected to be tough.

Players who attended the 2013 US Amateur got a little taste of what it will be like and current PGA Tour pro Matthew Fitzpatrick won the event. He is listed as a 35-1 long shot in Caesars Sportsbook’s latest US Open 2022 odds. Scottie Scheffler also played in this tournament and is now the No. 1 player in the Official World Golf Ranking, as well as the 11-1 favorite for the third major championship of the year. Before making any picks for the US Open 2022, be sure to see PGA Tour predictions and betting tips from SportsLine’s proven golf model.

SportsLine’s exclusive model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been scorching since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, it’s risen more than $9,500 on its best bets since then, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure’s model included Justin Thomas in his best bets to win the 2022 PGA Championship. That bet reached +1600, and for the entire tournament, McClure’s best bets returned nearly $800. At the 2022 Masters, McClure’s pattern was all over Scottie Scheffler’s first major championship win heading into the weekend.

Additionally, McClure’s best bets included winning Collin Morikawa at The Open Championship 2021, even though it was a whopping 40-1. The pattern was also all over Jon Rahm’s first career major championship win (10-1) at the 2021 US Open. Rahm was two shots off the lead heading into the weekend, but the pattern still projected him as the winner.

This same model also managed eight major tournaments entering the weekend. Everyone who followed him saw massive returns.

Now that the 2022 US Open golf tournament is approaching, SportsLine has simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results have been amazing. Head over to SportsLine now to see the projected standings.

Best US Open 2022 Predictions

A huge shock the model is calling for at the 2022 US Open: Scheffler, the world No. 1 player and tournament favorite, stumbles and barely cracks the top five. Scheffler has been on fire this season, producing four wins and seven top 10s, highlighted by his win at Augusta. But he has calmed down a bit in recent weeks.

He’s finished 15th or worse in his last three events and missed the PGA Championship cut. He also didn’t find much success at the US Open, missing the cut twice in four tries. The model doesn’t like it at these premium odds, making it a golfer to lose in your US Open 2022 bets.

Another surprise: Viktor Hovland, a 20-1 long shot, makes a surprising run for the title. He has a better chance of winning than his odds imply, making him an excellent sleeper pick at the 2022 US Open. The 24-year-old Norwegian turned professional after finishing as a weak amateur (t- 12th) at the 2019 US Open and in the three years since has already spent about six months in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Rankings.

Hovland has three PGA Tour wins, two European Tour wins and a 2021 Hero World Challenge victory under his belt and major championship success seems like the next logical step for one of the best ball forwards in the world. He currently ranks third on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Approach and that’s still a critical part of being successful on a US Open setup. Hovland has only missed the cut in one of his 10 career major league starts, and that’s when he was forced to withdraw from the 2021 US Open due to an eye injury.

How to make picks at the US Open 2022
