Thomas Pieters will win 1 p.m. in three balls
1pt 11-8 Betfair, Power

The two leading Irish Open home hopefuls, Shane Lowry and Seamus Power, play together for the first two days at Mount Juliet and are the morning starters for the first round of the County Kilkenny event.

Lowry and Power will be a bit concerned that the toughest conditions on the first two days appear to be Friday afternoon – it could be windy for the latecomers – but both men are well equipped for the challenge.

The best three-ball bets on opening afternoon might be Johannes Veerman (1:30 p.m.) and Thomas Pieters (1 p.m.). Veerman loves Mount Juliet, where he finished third at last year’s Irish Open, and one can imagine the soft-swinging American ahead of John Catlin and Sami Valimaki.

Pieters was in sublime form last week at the BMW International Open, hitting 22 under par before he was cruelly denied the title by a birdie from Haotong Li in the playoffs. If Pieters wears this form in Ireland then Lucas Herbert and Padraig Harrington could well be left behind.
