Portage County area golf news and notes, including a schedule

Maddie Kost of Kent was the champion at the Northern Ohio PGA Seven Hills Junior Tournament in Hartville in the girls 16-19 category.

Kost beat the competition by four strokes, shooting a 76 of 4 over par. She saved her best for the back nine, using three birdies to keep her score at the top of the standings.

Leading the boys 16-19 division are Jacob Ryan of Akron (4 under par) and Dylan Dunn of Stow tied.

Aurora’s Grace Vidovic won the girls 11-15 division by a stroke over Julia Gulia of Sagamore Hills.

Mix up the sisters place in the greatest golf

Sisters Jennifer and Jessica Mix of Diamond teamed up to finish fourth in the Girls U-14 division of the scramble event at the Reserve Run Golf Course in Poland, sponsored by the Greatest Junior Golf Tour.

The next tournament in the series will take place at Pine Lakes Golf Club on June 7 in Hubbard.

Golf raffle, outings benefit local first responders

The Portage County and Northeast Ohio Fire Departments often host golf outings to raise much-needed funds for department programs and equipment.

Many firefighters also spend their days away from duty participating in fire department outings, supporting fellow firefighters and paramedics.

Although golf is our family sport, many of our immediate and extended family are members of northeast Ohio departments, including our son, Rootstown Fire Department Captain Marty Jenior, his two sons , his nephews and many of our closest friends.

To that end, our daughter, Katie Jenior, Barrington Golf Club Manager and Instructor, raffled off a limited edition First Responder C-130 golf bag made by Sun Mountain to Barrington Golf Club members.

All supported the effort to purchase and distribute 100 dozen golf balls with the firefighter flag logo to area fire departments.
