Men’s golf opens Bernt Era in sixth place at Wildcat Invitational

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Creighton men’s golf team finished sixth at Wildcat Invitational in new head coach Bluejay’s debut Wes Bernet.

Junior Charlie Zielinski (71-69-69=209) led Creighton with three straight under par (72) on the 7,525-yard Colbert Hills Golf Club course. He led every player on the court with a pair of eagles, both in Tuesday’s final round, en route to his second consecutive top-five finish in the event. The Omaha native has now pared or bettered in 22 of 51 college rounds.

Shaun Campbell (73-74-78=225) tied for 35th place. The junior was under par for much of his final round before an eight-run streak over his final six holes to derail his hopes of a top-10 finish.

First-year student Grant Feldman made his collegiate debut in a tie for 50th, sandwiching rounds of 78 and 79 around a par 72 on Monday afternoon.

Senior Cade McCallum tied for 59th with a total of 231 after loops of 76, 74 and 81, while the second year Jake Boor rounded out the Bluejay contingent with scores of 80, 81 and 78 tied for 74th overall.

Host Kansas State won the 15-team tournament by 27 strokes over North Dakota State with a total of 837 by 27 under. 67-69-70=206) at once in a peloton of 81 competitors.

Creighton returns to the course September 12-13 for the Ram Masters Invitational in Fort Collins, Colorado.
