Memorial Tournament 2022: Latest betting odds, favorites and sleeper picks for Muirfield Village Golf Club

At +2000, Xander Schauffele will be looking to add another win to his underrated year so far.

Scottie Scheffler reminded everyone why he’s the No. 1 golfer in the world last week, but he certainly left something to be desired.

When trying to reassert your dominance, it may be prudent to birdie or two in the final round. Scheffler couldn’t with many other contenders at the tricky Colonial Country Club over the final 18 holes. However, the layout and conditions caught the eye of our favorite Sam Burns and he managed to record seven birdies on his way to a playoff win over the world No.1. Burns continues to prove why he is among the game’s elite as he is now second in the FedEx Cup standings.

As for the rest of the picks, mid-range pick Sebastian Munoz couldn’t do anything this weekend and sleeper Stewart Cink couldn’t recover from two double bogeys in his opening round.

This week started with Memorial Day and will end with a champion at the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio. This week at “Jack’s Place” marks the time of the season when the PGA Tour moves north for the summer. As reported ahead of last year’s event, Nicklaus has had the course refurbished and the layout will play up to 100 yards further for a field that features seven of the world’s top 10 players. However, going low will be key as Jon Rahm is the only winner in the past nine years to shoot single digits under par.

According to SI Sportsbook, the co-favorites are world number 2 Rahm and world number 8 Rory McIlroy at +1000. Close behind is two-time defending champion Patrick Cantlay at +1600. Next up is recent RBC Heritage winner Jordan Spieth at +1800. Closing out the notables, Players Champion Cameron Smith and Zurich Classic co-winner Xander Schauffele at +2000.

RECOMMENDED ITEMS

For our favourite, we go with Schauffele at +2000. Since winning the Zurich Classic with Patrick Cantlay, he has followed up with a T5 at the AT&T Byron Nelson and a T13 at the PGA Championship. Apart from his two missed cups at the Players and Masters, Schauffele also boasts five other top 15s this season. In his final 24 rounds, he also ranks second in strokes gained: driving, which will be imperative with every player doing their best to avoid the harsh Muirfield Village penalty. In his last four starts here, Schauffele has finished in the top 15 each time, so expect him to continue another strong season and challenge for his maiden victory.

For a mid-range pick, we’ll follow the steam on Patrick Reed at +5000. After a difficult start to 2022, the former Masters champion seems to have turned a corner in the past two weeks. He is coming off his best result of the year, a T7 at the Charles Schwab Challenge, where he earned shots in every category for the first time in nearly a year. He also enters a place where he has placed in the top 15 three times, including a fifth last year. Another tidbit to consider is that Reed ranks 15th in Strokes Gained: Total on Nicklaus designs. Reed should be able to build on his positive momentum and make some noise on the weekends.

For a deep sleeper, we’ll look at another American who showed turn flashes, albeit much wider in Rickie Fowler at +10000. Fowler has notably struggled for a few years now, but the annual trip to Dublin, Ohio always seems to bring out his best stuff. He has two top 10s, four top 15s and a missed cut in his last six starts here, including a T11 last year. Recently he’s made six of his last eight cuts and just finished two recent top 25s at the Wells Fargo Championship and the PGA Championship, his best showings of 2022. For a guy who feels his best all season and is heading to one of his favorite places, something must give.
