Marshall announces reorganization of the management team

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall University Athletic Director christian spears announced on Wednesday a reorganization of its management team, including the creation of an executive committee and promotions among senior managers.

“We’ve spent the past five months discovering the people and policies that make us special,” Spears said. “We know we have an administrative team that can move us forward in a positive way while ensuring that we achieve our goals of capitalizing on our incredible brand, honoring our fanbase and maximizing the student-athlete experience. .

The executive team:

Debra Boughton, AD Executive Assistant, Championship Planning & Resources

At Marshall, Boughton will act as Chief Financial Officer and manage our revenue regeneration, capital planning, administrative success and resource reallocation strategy while serving as athletic administrator for men’s softball, volleyball and soccer.

Beatrice Crane-Banford, AD Senior Associate, Olympic Sports/SWA

Crane-Banford has been promoted to senior AD partner. She will continue to serve as SWA and handle sports administration duties for the Women’s Soccer, Women’s Swimming and Diving, Women’s Tennis and Women’s Track and Field programs.

John SutherlandSenior Associate AD, Development and Executive Director of the Big Green

Sutherland has been promoted to AD Senior Associate and will continue to oversee all areas of athletic development for Marshall University’s Big Green Scholarship Foundation. Sutherland will also be the sports administrator for men’s golf and women’s golf.

Andrew BrownAssociate DA for installations and event operations

Brown was promoted to AD Associate for Facilities and Operations after previously serving as an AD Assistant in the same department. He will be the athletic administrator for baseball and cross country.

Arlin Vieira — Special Assistant to the Athletic Director (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee – SAAC)

The 22-year-old joined the herd this summer and will have work responsibilities that include special projects focused on the student-athlete experience and as an executive assistant to Spears, Vieira is on the senior staff and Spears’ leadership team and will serve as the lead administrator of our student-athlete advisory committee.

Spears was introduced as Marshall’s new athletic director on February 25 and officially took over on March 14. He will also be sports administrator for football and men’s basketball. Spears will continue to review applications for the AD Executive Assistant for External Operations and Partnerships who will also work with men’s football and basketball; also part of the management team and senior managers.

Senior managers:

Ben Ashford — AD Assistant, Sports Performance Director

Ashford joined the senior team on July 1 after being hired as Sports Performance Director in 2021. Ben has been promoted to Assistant AD and will be part of the senior team overseeing all aspects of the strength and conditioning program. Marshall conditioning.

Sharrod Everett — Deputy AD for Football/Chief of Football Staff

The veteran football administrator officially joined Spears’ senior team on July 1 and was promoted to assistant AD. Everett came to Marshall in 2021 as part of Charles Hoffinaugural staff. He has 16 years of administrative experience, including at all levels of Division I football.

Rodney Kasey — AD Assistant for Digital Content and Brand Management

Kasey was introduced on July 1. Kasey comes to Marshall from Bluefield University, where he held the AD Assistant for Creative Media and Student Development. At Marshall, Kasey will lead the department’s renamed media relations division and will be a senior executive at Spears.

Dawn Kirtner — AD Assistant for Business Operations

Kirtner was promoted to AD Assistant for Business Operations in July 2021 and was officially added to senior athletic department staff a year later. Kirtner began working in the Office of Athletics Affairs as an undergrad in 1997.

Teddy Kluemper — Associate AD for Development

Kluemper first joined the athletic department in 2010 and most recently served as AD assistant for development. In addition to his promotion to associate AD for development, Kluemper was added to the senior athletic department staff this spring.

Chris Lapole — Assistant AD, Head Athletic Coach

The Huntington native was elevated to senior DA rank on July 1. He is Marshall’s head athletic coach and athletic coach for the men’s basketball program. He was also elevated to the rank of AD assistant.

Chuck McGill — Associated AD for external engagement and fan experience

McGill will lead the marketing, broadcast and media relations teams, and participate in creative content (video, photo and graphics) while emphasizing the fan experience in-game and social media, and will was also promoted to AD Associate.

Shiv Patel — AD Assistant for Academics

Patel joined the Herd family in May 2022 as Deputy DA for Academics and officially joined the DA leadership team on July 1. Patel will mainly work with the football team.

Cedric Prowell — AD Assistant for Equipment Operations

Prowell joined Marshall Athletics in July 2022 and immediately joined Spears’ senior team. Previously, Prowell served as Director of Equipment Operations at Duke University.

Will Smith — Deputy AD, Managing Director, LEARFIELD

A Marshall graduate and Kenova native, Smith will lead Thundering Herd Sports Properties. He has held positions at LEARFIELD, the Marshall University Foundation, and the ticket office of Marshall Athletics.

Sean Tuttle — Associate Athletic Director for Compliance

Tuttle joined the Thundering Herd as Associate AD for Compliance in November 2021. He is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day duties of Marshall’s Compliance Office and its staff.

Lisa Williamson — Associate DA for Academic Services

Williamson joined Marshall Athletics in 2016. She has over 25 years of experience at Marshall, most of which was spent as Director of Student Services at the College of Business.

Cole Woodrum — AD assistant for ticket sales and operations

Son of Marshall, Woodrum joined the Marshall Ticket Office in July 2014. He has held the positions of Graduate Assistant, Assistant Ticketing Manager and Ticketing Manager. He recently added the direction of all ticket sales and operations to his portfolio.
