Lt Col M. Jamil Khan was an avid golfer. Many members of Karachi’s golfing community considered him a father figure with a passion for golf. Even in his final days, when it was not possible for Col Jamil to play his favorite course at the Defense Authority Country and Golf Club (DAC&GC), he would visit the club and sit and watch the golfers complete their course to the 18th green. .

He passed away a few years ago, but his golfing legacy is carried on by his family. His sons Imran and Usman Jamil are avid golfers. His grandson Farris Jamil is also a promising junior golfer. In his memory, his family hosts the Lt. Col. M. Jamil Khan Memorial Golf Tournament annually at the DAC&GC.

Over the years, the tournament has become a major event in the club’s golfing calendar and attracts a wide range of players from different categories.

This year’s edition held on March 26-27 also proved to be a great success. The two-day tournament saw exciting contests in various categories.

In the amateur category, Hamza Ghani won the raw title with Pakistani No. 1 Omar Khalid finishing second. Abdullah Arif finished third. In the amateur (net) category, Kashif Shabbir won first prize while Usman Masood finished second followed by Waheeduddin. Other winners included Fahad Ayub, Hamza Sheikh, Jameeluddin, Hamza Ali, Humera Khalid, Fazila Kareem, Maj Muhammad Suhail, Maj Talat Lodhi, Air Cdre Khalid Hussain, Shoaib Alavi, Col Ashar Rizwan, Faisal Akif Memon, Jawad Amjad and Saad Rabani. .

The tournament ended with a well-attended awards ceremony. Lt. Gen. Hilal Hussain, President of the Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF), was the guest of honor at the occasion. He hailed Imran Jamil and his family for organizing the prestigious tournament in memory of Col Jamil, who was an avid golfer. The ceremony was attended by close family members of the late Col Jamil as well as a large number of golfers.
