The excitement is palpable as the action resumes with 150 golfers taking the start of the ICEA Lion King Of the Course 4th Round Golf Tournament at Par 72 Machakos Golf Course in Machakos County tomorrow.
The 18-hole day-long Stableford event also attracted a number of golfers, including defending 16 handicap champion Ken Chebii.
The event starts from 6 a.m. for the morning shift with the flight of A.Kioko, E.Kimeu and N.Masaka while the last team of this section will be at 8:56 a.m. with the team of K. Muthengi, P .Kimatu, Joe Mboya and J. Muthengi.
The afternoon flight starts at 11:04 am with the crew of W. Gichui, W.kamau, D. Siunah and P.Mwiruri.
Club captain Charles Kimiti leads the afternoon group which includes E.Ngethe, P.Mukuria and S. Mwitari while the last group will start at 1:08 pm with J.Ndunda’s team, S.Kona , professional golfer Alfred Nandwa and K. Ngumbao.
Kimiti said they are delighted to host this year’s opening which brings together golfers from across the country.
“The series began five years ago and has been scaled back over the past two years by continued lockdowns in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. But we believe this year the series will make a full circuit from Machakos to Thika Green, Ruiru, Nanyuki, Nandi Bears and Nyali Golf Club, culminating in a grand final here in Machakos in January 2023, ”Kimiti said.
Kimiti said the club are proud of their continued partnership with ICEA Lion.
“Machakos golfers are ready to go the length of the series and this year we expect huge turnout at all events. We also invite everyone to come and enjoy the friendly course dotted with picturesque Iveti, Mua and Kiima Kimwe hills, ”said Kimiti.
The series will then move to Thika Greens on January 14, 2022 for an 18-hole club night, then to the Ruiru Sports Golf Club on January 15, which will host the series with an expected field of more than 250 golfers adorning the event.
From Ruiru, the series premieres to Nanyuki Sports Club on January 22, and then to Nandi Bears in May.
Nyali Golf and Country Club will host in October and the event will culminate in Machakos in January 2023 where the top ten winners from each club will compete in a grand final of the annual ICEA Lion King of Course circuit.
