BLUFFTON, SC (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men’s golf team hit rounds of 294 and 295 in their first two rounds at Colleton River Collegiate on Monday, March 7, as the Eagles sit in 10th place with a round to do. Senior Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph’s Catholic) led the team with one of 175 (71-74) over Jack Nicklaus at Colleton River Club.
In a field that has four teams in the top 45, Georgia State sits atop the standings with a 560-under-16 (278-282). Kansas State is second (566), followed by Michigan State 28th (569), USF 26th (569) and Ohio State 36th (572).
How did it happen
After posting five birdies in his first round, Celone was only able to card one on the 14th hole in the final. Albin Bergstrom of South Florida leads the field at 10-unde 134 (66-68).
Second year Max Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) is only one stroke behind Celone with a 146 (71-75) in the 38th, while his classmate Cam Kellett (London, Ontario-Saint Thomas Aquinas-Nevada) added a 147 (76-71).
Senior cougar collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) returned scores of 76 and 75 for a 151 in 50th. senior companion Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park) finished the day with a 157 (71-76) tied for 70th place.
The Eagles will be back on the course tomorrow morning for the third and final round of Colleton River Collegiate. Tuesday tee times begin at 7:45 a.m. and live results are available on GolfStat.com.
