PEORIA (25 NEWS) – Disc golf is a popular sport in River City, and on Saturday – despite the snow – dozens of disc golfers gathered for a massive tournament at Laura Bradley Park.
The 21st Peoria Frisbee Club Ice Bowl is a fundraising tournament hosted by Plastic Addicts – a Beijing-based disc golf store.
About 140 players in teams of two turned up for the tournament, which raises funds for the Midwest Food Bank and the City Church of Pekin.
“We host some of the biggest tournaments in the world. It’s just a fun way to play in the snow and still have fun in the winter and give back to the community, ”said tournament director Johnnie Harrison.
Professional disc golfers Nate Yemm and Garry Patton were partners, and Patton said they have been part of the Frisbee Club for more than a decade.
“Every round is different. And the discs – they all have different flights, so it’s like golf that you have different clubs, but you can make your swing more in disc golf than in golf, so you can be very creative. It’s cool to watch that, ”Patton said.
Harrison added that they hoped to raise around $ 5,000 on Saturday, as well as hundreds of pounds of food for the food bank.
