Cumberland’s Jackson Wins RIGA Junior Amateur Golf Title



BARRINGTON – Cumberland golfer Max Jackson won his third tournament title in 11 weeks on Friday August 13 at Rhode Island Country Club by winning the 100th RIGA Junior Amateur Championship with an impressive 1 victory over Harry Dessel.

Jackson, who completed his first season on the La Salle Academy golf team by winning the RIIL Championship at Cranston Country Club, and on the eve of the July 4th weekend, won the World Series of Junior Golf two days at the Triggs Memorial Golf Course. , also took a 1 win over seeded Bennett Masterson in the semi-finals the day before.

Jackson won the tournament’s fourth seed with a tie-71 par in the stroke play first qualifying round, and after scoring a 1 over Jack McMullen in the round of 16, he won 2 and 1 against Ricky. Angeli.

En route to the championship, Jackson, who plays with Pawtucket Country Club, beat three state rivals who finished in the top five at the two-day RIIL state meet.

Dessel, who played for Moses Brown and was the second seeded junior amateur, placed fifth at the RIIL event; Angeli, who played for Bishop Hendricken, was fourth and McMullen, who played for East Greenwich, was third.
