Central Ohio Golf Course Sells, New Owner Considering Housing Development

Lancaster’s Pleasant Valley Golf Course sold for $ 1 million and will become a subdivision.

Lancaster’s Pleasant Valley Golf Course will soon be transformed into an upscale residential complex.

Local developer Bob Buess bought the property for $ 1 million through Rockbridge Management. He plans to divide the site into 15 houses with 5 and 10 acre lots that will eventually be custom built.

“We just bought it because there is a shortage of land available and it’s a great location close to Columbus,” said Buess. “I expect all lots to sell.”

Located at 180 Coonpath Road NE, the site is just under 84 acres, according to the Fairfield County Auditor.

Buess said four lots have been sold so far. Columbus-based Diyanni Homes is building homes on three of those four lots, he said.

Buess said that while the site will contain custom-built homes, there will be deed restrictions to protect investments. He estimates construction will begin in early 2022.

Mike Kilbarger, the course’s former owner, said an infrastructure overhaul would have been necessary for it to continue as a golf club. That’s why he decided to sell, although it has been four years since he made that decision and three years since he first put the property up for sale.

“I just didn’t think I had the ambition, the energy or the means to rebuild, so we decided to just sell it,” Kilbarger said. “The golf courses were in trouble and then we had a three year period with flooding and flooding so golfers couldn’t play. “

The site, which Kilbarger says has been home to a golf course for 51 years, is one of three Lancaster properties for sale recently.

Barry and Jennifer Rhonemus, originally from Lancaster, bought the nearby Valley View Golf Club in August and the Lancaster Eagle Gazette reported that the Lancaster Country Club has also sold.

The Valley View course is the only of the three to remain a golf course at the time of posting. More details are expected in the coming weeks on the country club’s plans.
