Cambronero’s best run of the season highlights Texans’ efforts on day one of Islander Classic

SAN ANTONIO, TXAlejandra Cambronero entered Tarleton’s first tournament in the spring as the No. 3 golfer in the group, but she was No. 1 for the team early, posting a season-best round to start the Islander Classic.

Cambronero shot +5 (76) in the first round of the tournament hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Brackenridge Park Golf Course in San Antonio on Monday. She beat her best round from the previous season by one hit, a +6 (77) in the first round at the Missouri State Payne Stewart Memorial on Sept. 13.

Tarleton nearly completed both rounds on Monday, but Round 2 was suspended with only a few holes to go for most participants due to darkness. The golfers will finish their rounds on Tuesday morning before playing the third and final round of the tournament.

The Texans are 14th after day one at +31 as a team. Matilda Brogens, Tarleton’s No. 1 golfer this week, leads the team with an overall score of +10. She shot +6 (77) in round one and has +4 over 17 holes in round 2. Brogens is currently tied for 23rd in the individual standings.

Sophie Rodriguez is at +13 on the tournament with one hole still to play in his second round. She is at +7 in Round 2 after scoring +6 (77) in Round 1. Cambronero finished her second round at +8 (79), +13 now for the tournament. She and Rodriguez are tied for 40th.

The Tarleton freshman duo Angela Inocian and Bridgett Joeris are respectively at +23 and +26. Inocian shot +10 (81) in the first round and had +13 with a hole to play in round 2. Joeris shot +14 (85) in the first round and +12 (83) in the second.

Brackenridge Park Golf Course is a 5,986 yard Par 71 course. The home team leads the other 17 at +8. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Anastacia Johnson tops the individual standings at -3. She shot -1 (70) in Round 1 and is -2 on 15 holes in Round 2.
