Oe are on the cusp of another beautiful Washington spring and that means one thing: it’s time to be outside. Whether you prefer alfresco dining, an afternoon on the links or relaxing by the pool, there is something for everyone at the Olympia Country & Golf Club. Not a member? You’re in luck because their membership campaign runs from March 1 to May 31 and showcases everything the club has to offer.
This year’s membership special echoes last year’s. General Manager Jason Reehm said that after the 2021 event, “we’ve had over 150 new members join our club, and we have a lot more room to grow!” This is Olympia’s only private country club and by joining the special you waive your initiation fee for all member categories. “We require a one-year commitment when joining the club, and with the membership fee waived, potential members can save thousands of dollars if they join now,” Reehm says.
Although it will be a few weeks before Washington’s climate becomes truly golf-friendly, staff work on the course year-round. “We have made many aesthetic changes to our golf course,” says Reehm, “cleaning up various holes for more playability and removing trees and stumps which enhance the visual component of the course and its functionality. We have also redesigned our restaurant and wine lists as well as offering a very successful Ready to go menu for our golfers and members who want a quick bite. We now offer a special $10 lunch menu everyday which is the best deal in town for our members.
But it’s more than golf at the Club. “Our club has unique characteristics that no other club has in the Olympia region,” Reehm proudly says. “First, we are the only private club in the South Sound. Second, we are a private club that has its own dock for members to use while golfing or dining. Third, we have the only outdoor pool in the Olympia area that our members can use in the spring and summer. Our par 71 golf course is challenging and rewarding, and we’re known for having the best greens in the area. We offer a summer kids camp for our members’ children as well as an excellent junior golf program. We also have one of the best pickleball court views in the state and a very active group that loves the game.”
Olympia Country & Golf Club offers practice lessons in their well-stocked Fitness Center including yoga, core workouts, stretching and nutrition. Treadmills, elliptical machines, recumbent bikes, cable weights, medicine balls and Swiss balls are all available for use from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with stunning waterfront views.
They also maintain a pickle ball yard with water view and a second yard in the parking garage for weather. They organize teams and will host five tournaments in 2022 alone. There are weekly games scheduled as well as on-site sign-up sheets for players who want an impromptu pickup game. The tournaments will take place each month from May to September.
For those less athletically inclined, Reehm promises to: “Have a full list of events for our members each month. We organize an average of six events per month for our members, from steak or prime rib evenings to Madi Gras. Our speaker series is very popular and family events like Bingo Night get a great response. We also organize great events for all holidays that members really enjoy.
Whatever your appetite, visit Terrace on the Green to start the day well or end the evening with a dessert and a cocktail. From calamari to smoked duck salad, ahi tuna, or rustic cheesy flatbread, you’ll enjoy it all with views of the Sound, mountains, and beautiful surrounding greenery.
For those 21 and older, consider participating in their wine program. Catering manager Heather Wilson explains that this “includes monthly events such as five- to six-course wine dinners, quarterly Connoisseur Club wine shows, Wine 101 Sommelier series events and a program great value retail wine for these events and the restaurant wine list too.”
Oenological dinners are organized every quarter and at the Wine Expo, between 12 and 20 different wines are presented with appetizers. “Participating members have the opportunity to vote for their favorite wines of the evening,” says Wilson, “and then those winning wines are featured on next quarter’s wine list. Our retail wine program is also a great value for our members. We offer an equally advantageous retail rate for the wines featured at each event and those on our quarterly wine lists at Terrace on the Green Restaurant. It’s the best price you can get in town and often better than the winemaker himself!”
