LAKE PLACID – The 40th Annual Olympic Auto Show (Cars, Trucks, Motorcycles) in support of the Lake Placid Ski Club and Lake Placid Fire Department will return Sunday, September 4 at the Olympic Oval in speed skating after a two-year absence due to the coronavirus pandemic and the rebuilding of the speed skating rink.
In 2021, the Lake Placid Ski Club celebrated its 100th anniversary. This event is a major fundraiser for the ski club’s children’s ski education programs. Former participants of children’s ski education programs have not only learned to ski, but a few have made it all the way to the Olympics and won gold, silver and bronze medals for United States. This event also supports the purchase of safety equipment by the Lake Placid Fire Department.
On Sunday, all auto show entries will be on display for the public on the speed skating ring from noon to 4 p.m. Due to ongoing road construction, there will be no parade on Main Street this year. The procession will return next year.
Judging will begin at noon at the Olympic Speed Skating Oval – cars, trucks and possibly even motorcycles will remain on display for spectators until the awards ceremony at 4 p.m. Lake Placid Fire Club and Department. Three cash prizes will be awarded to the best vehicles of the show selected by the spectators. This gives everyone the opportunity to vote for their favorites and all participants have a higher probability of winning one or more prizes.
This show is great fun for locals and tourists alike, with over 100 cars and trucks already registered, there will be plenty of activities such as quiet raps and a DJ to keep the whole family entertained.
A hamburger and hot dog barbeque will be offered by the Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department as a fundraiser for the purchase of safety equipment.
Spectator admission is $5 per adult and $3 for children under 12. Please note that dogs and bicycles will not be allowed anywhere on the Speedkating Oval campus to protect the beautiful paint jobs on the show vehicles.
